Historical sites


As more significant sites associated with a rich history of the Town of Strumica and Strumica Region, we would particularly highlight the sites “St Fifteen Hieromartyrs of Tiberiopolis” associated with the hagiography of the St Fifteen Hieromartyrs written later by Theofylact of Ohrid, next the site “Tzar’s Towers”, which can be associated with significant historical events, such as the wars between Byzantium and Dobromir Hrs by the end of the 12th century, the ruling of the sebastokrator Srez in the first half of the 13th century and the protosebastos Hrelja in the first half of the 14th century, the church “Orta Mosque” with the reputed family Tetragonitu who lived in the Town of Strumica sometime in the 12th and 13th century. The site “Varnica” can also be associated with important historical events related to the final operations of libaration of the country in 1944, as well as many buildings in Strumica associated with the activities of the revolutionaries, such as those of Blagoj Jankov - Mucheto, etc.
