Strumica Carnival

The Strumica Carnival is an event which takes place every year in the frameworks of the carnival ceremonies and closely relates to the Trimeri holiday and the beginning of Easter fasting. Beside the masquerade ball, the children’s carnival and other supporting activities, the Strumica carnival is the central event that attracts a large number of visitors and participants from the country and abroad. The first written documents about the carnival were made by the travel writer Evliya Çelebi in 1670, but it is supposed to have existed much earlier. Strumica and Strumica Carnival are members of the Federation of European Carnival Cities (FECC). The continuous growth of this event has made Strumica one of the best in Europe in this respect and has included it among the 20 most successful carnival events in the world.
